2019 Permeable Alleys

All,

On Thursday, September 26, 2019 the contractor will be installing sub-drain under W. 4th street between College and Olive streets. In order for the work to begin a portion of the south lane on W. 4th street will be required to be closed, causing alternating one lane traffic. Below you will find a map with the closure area highlighted.

For safety's sake, please stay away from the construction area. Heavy equipment will be moving back and forth on the closed street. It would be advisable to stay behind the sidewalk on the property side during the reconstruction work.

If you have any questions or concerns during the course of construction you may contact me by phone, fax or e-mail as listed below.

Sincerely,

All,

Beginning, Wednesday, July 10th, 2019 the contractor will begin reconstruction of the alley from Division St. to Catherine St. between 9th St. and 10th St. In order for the contractor to begin, a full alley closure will be required. The closure will be in effect for four (4) to six (6) weeks, depending on the weather. Attached you will find a map with the closure area highlighted. Please have all necessary vehicles removed from garages and driveways that are adjacent to the alley. On-street parking will be available.

Alley Closure Notice - Division Street to Catherine Street Between 9th and 10th Street

For safety's sake, please stay away from the construction area. Heavy equipment will be moving back and forth on the closed street. It would be advisable to stay behind the sidewalk on the property side during the reconstruction work.

Trees, bushes and plants will be in conflict with the construction work. Some trees or bushes will be removed and some may only require the overhanging branches to be trimmed. This includes trees and bushes planted on private property that have encroached into the alley Right of Way.

Before construction, any landscape plantings, ornamental items or other personalized items within the right-of-way and up to within one foot of the right-of-way are the property owner’s responsibility and should be removed prior to construction.

Garbage pickup will not be affected at this location.

Once the alley is completed, the City will be responsible for any future maintenance, repair, and replacement. However, the following steps should be taken by homeowners during shoveling or sweeping:

  • Shovel or plow the pavers just like a regular concrete street or sidewalk.
  • Do not add sand for traction on or near the paver surface, this will clog the pavement.
  • Do not pour any oil, antifreeze, or other harmful materials onto the surface.
  • Sweep the surface or use a leaf blower to remove debris.
  • If you have any questions or see anyone illegally pouring materials onto the alley, please call 319-268-5161.

If you want to receive road closure notices by e-mail, visit www.cedarfalls/notify and follow the instructions for road construction as shown.

If you have any questions or concerns during the course of construction you may contact me by phone, fax or e-mail as listed below.

Thank you,

Brett Armstrong
