Section 8 Housing Assistance

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is a rental assistance program funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Section 8 Program provides rent subsidy payments for eligible Cedar Falls residents. To be eligible for Section 8, a household must meet income requirements. All Section 8 participants must have an annual income of less than 50% of area median income.

Section 8 Rental Income limits

The City of Cedar Falls gives preference to any household with:
  • Children under the age of 18 (must reside in the household 51% of the time)
  • Elderly persons 62 years or older
  • Disabled persons
If your name is already on a waiting list, you do not need to take any action. Cedar Falls will maintain your name and the date and time you applied. You are still required to update your personal information by submitting changes in writing. Staff will continue to process the applications of those households currently on the list and issue vouchers as funding and vacancies allow.

The Cedar Falls Housing Authority will continue to accept applications for the Cedar Falls residency preference list, which is limited to those applicants currently living in Cedar Falls with proof of residency. If you are a Cedar Falls resident with proof of residency, you may still apply any Tuesday from 10 am–4 pm at 220 Clay Street. Every adult in the household must be here in person with their photo ID, Social Security card, and proof of Cedar Falls residency in the form of a lease or utility bill in your name. All other applications will not be accepted.
